About Perama

They've had the influences of writers and thinkers such as Homer Plato Pythagoras in Ancient times who described meals and eating habits in their works. Then there were the great chefs Archestratus Athenaeus and Mithaikos who wrote volumes of work dedicated to food.

Then there was the natural instinct of the Ancients to explore outside their borders through science and trade. Bringing in ingredients from all over the known world to Greece many ingredients became commonplace amongst the diets of the Ancients.

Alexander The Great opened the gates of trade and culture to Greece and the east with the Hellenistic Era bringing in a more regular trade of new and wonderful ingredients which further broadened the palates of Greeks.

The Greeks also integrated well into different cultures and integrated others into theirs quite readily. This also brought in variations to their own recipes and evolution of their own cuisine.
